Applications are now open for Cupar Analytics’ first Practical Echosounder Data Processing course, running 22-26 March 2027 in St Andrews, Scotland.
This will be a five-day, fully hands-on course taking participants from raw Simrad EK60/EK80 data through:
- data inspection and quality control
- noise filtering and bottom detection
- fish-school, krill-swarm and scattering-layer detection
- feature extraction, validation and classification
- abundance and biomass estimation
- assessment of processing choices and uncertainty
- preparation of structured outputs for reporting, modelling and machine learning
The course will use open-source tools including KORONA, echopype and supporting Python workflows. Advanced programming experience is not required: guided examples, reusable templates and AI-assisted coding tools will be used to help participants build and understand practical workflows.
The course is limited to 14 participants.
